The Vision
Erin opened the Up and Up Salon on June 1st, 2020—right in the middle of the pandemic—because she was tired of the way the salon industry was operating and wanted to change the way things are done. She believes in female empowerment, professional self-growth, and believes the salon industry is a profession and a craft that should be taken just as seriously as any other profession such as IT, Law and Healthcare.
The Salon industry is dominated by women—over 85% of the workforce is female, in fact—and over 60% of those women are single mothers. Our industry has an average pay of only $27,000 per year, no standard of benefits and little to no vacation pay. Only 4 out of every 10 hairstylists that graduate cosmetology school are still doing hair after 4 years, and that number significantly drops after 10 years. Very few hairdressers get to retire, especially with their own money.
We want to change the industry and the way that people see our industry.
We want our stylist to enjoy the same benefits as an IT professional, accountant or any other professional.
We want to empower stylists to learn how to run their business behind the chair and earn a significant wage so they can live a financially secure, happy life with options. We want to show the industry that it can be done while still turning a profit.
We want a salon that is quick to adapt to an ever-changing market, through an open, creative mind.
We want to show our clients that we are true professionals, who deserve to be treated as such: we are well educated, well poised and treat our guests with the utmost respect
We want to make a difference not only in the lives of our clients and team members, but of the whole community
Basically, we want to challenge the industry status quo.
