I opened our salon because I was tired of the way the salon industry was operating and wanted to change the way things are done. I believe in female empowerment and professional self growth. I believe the salon industry is a profession and a craft that should be taken just a seriously as any other profession such as IT, Law and medical.
The Salon industry is over 85% woman dominated, and over 60% of those women are single mothers. Our industry has an average pay of only $27,000 a year, no standard of benefits and no vacation pay. Only 4 out of every 10 hairstylist that graduate cosmetology school are still doing hair after 4 years and that number significantly drops after 10 years. Very few hairdressers get to retire, especially with their own money.
